The 13th in the series of European Conferences on Mixing organized under the auspices of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE Event number 675) was held at King's College London, University of London, on 14-17 April 2009, hosted by the Experimental and Computational Laboratory for the Analysis of Turbulence (ECLAT) and chaired by Professor Michael Yianneskis. The conference was the latest in a series that commenced in Cambridge in 1974 and has been held since in a number of cities across Europe.

The conference provided a forum for both the formal presentation of the latest fluid mixing research, as well as for informal discussions between participants and contact between university- and industry-based researchers to stimulate debate and encourage incorporation of the latest research findings and methodology in mixing practice. Conference sessions on fundamentals of mixing processes, novel simulation and diagnostic techniques, single- and multi-phase mixing, mixing of complex fluids, suspensions and dispersions, mixing with chemical reaction, mixing and polymerization, and new developments and advances in mixing science and its applications. The conference was attended by 120 participants from academia and industry from 14 countries from Europe, America and Asia.

A Manufacturers' Forum accompanied the conference. During the conference, the EFCE Mixing Lifetime Recognition Award was presented to Professor Joel Bertrand of the University of Toulouse and the Young Researcher Award to Dr. Andrea Ducci, Lecturer and EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow, of King's College London.
